Vote Tuesday December 8th: Find Your Polling Place
Alan Khazei -- endorsed by the Boston Globe -- is all about Big Citizenship, and voting is at the core of what citizenship means. On Tuesday, December 8th, the citizens of Massachusetts have a chance to exercise that fundamental right in the primary election to determine the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

In the Constitution as originally written, Senators were chosen by state legislatures rather than directly elected by the people. But after the ratification of the 17th Amendment in 1913, that right and duty was bestowed on citizens themselves, so that the entire legislature might be held accountable to the will of the whole nation. And the political parties only began holding popular primaries in the mid-eighteenth century. Prior to that party bosses and luminaries would have selected the candidates. So let's not let that hard-won right to choose our Senatorial candidates and Senators ourselves go to waste.
Politicians are driven by many things, including their beliefs and ideologies, money and influence. But the voice that speaks loudest is the vote - the vote of the people, actively exercised. Our votes grant them office, and can take it away. No politican forgets this. So whatever your views -- on Alan Khazei, on the Democratic candidates for Senate, on our political system in general -- make sure to make your voice heard December 8th.
