During this campaign, I have worked hard to develop comprehensive, innovative plans to address the most important issues and opportunities facing the citizens of Massachusetts and our great country. But I believe how I approached each issue is equally as important, because the voters of the Commonwealth have a right to know how each of the candidates will develop their positions on issues that will surely need to be addressed during the term of the next Senator from Massachusetts, but those we cannot envision right now.
In all aspects of my life, I have always tried hard to lead by example. In this campaign, I have followed a consistent approach to developing our plans and positions that we now call The Khazei Principles.
1. Start with the facts.
2. Consult with the world’s best experts and practitioners.
3. Look for innovative solutions wherever they may be.
4. Develop programs to invest and grow what works and stop wasting money on what doesn’t.
5. Listen and understand other points of view.
6. Ask for citizen ideas.
7. Ask for citizen action to be a part of the solution.
8. Know what it costs and how we are going to pay for it.
9. Ensure we can measure cost and the benefits.
10. When necessary, build a movement to get it done.
I give the voters of Massachusetts my commitment that I will follow these principles for every major question, issue or opportunity I can address while representing you as your next Senator.
