Alan is the son of a doctor and a nurse who went into medicine to care for people and save lives. Health care is personal for him, and he views health care reform as both a moral imperative and an economic necessity. Too many families do not have health insurance at all, and even those that do sometimes find in their greatest hour of need, their coverage is not adequate. As an entrepreneur and someone who grew an enterprise from two co-founders to thousands of employees, Alan knows first-hand how rising insurance premiums impact a business’s ability to make payroll or invest in growth.

Alan’s goals are to pass heath insurance reform so that all Americans have access to quality health care, to insure that patient’s rights to quality health care are guaranteed and that no one in America will ever again go bankrupt because they lost their health insurance, to use a public option to make sure insurance companies have real competition to simultaneously improve the quality of health care and patient safety while dramatically lowering the cost of our health care system.

A Summary of Alan’s 5-Point Plan

1. Create Real Competition

Enact comprehensive reform that end insurance company abuse and includes a strong Public Option to provide real competition and control costs.

2. End Malpractice Abuse

Improve patient safety, ensure that all patients who are injured receive fair and fast compensation and attack the root cause of defensive medicine through innovative medical malpractice reform.

3. Ensure Comprehensive Quality and Cost Opportunities Are Captured

Create an Independent Health Care Quality Council to address the costs of regional differences in health care treatment and spending.

4. Reduce Chronic Disease and Treatment Costs

Indentify, support and reward innovative solutions for reducing obesity, smoking and other behavioral drivers of health care costs.

5. Focus on Health vs. Profits

Put the citizen’s interests over the special interests by fighting the health care lobbyists and calling for more aggressive campaign finance reform.
